My Favorite Fantasy Books & Series

J.R.R. Tolkien
The Hobbit
Lord of the Rings
The Silmarillion
While The Hobbit is a children's book, The Lord of the Rings is often sited as one of the great books of all time. For those who have read the first two, I highly recommend the The Silmarillion, my personal favorite.
Robert Jordan
The Wheel of Time
The first novel in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World, was released on January 15, 1990. The 14th and final volume was released in early 2013. The complexity and detail of this world are astounding.
Mercedes Lackey
Valdemar universe
The first novel in Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series, Arrows of the Queen, was released in 1987. There are now 30 books in the series as well as 7 anthologies of short stories in the world. I also enjoy her Elemental Masters series.
Terry Brooks
Shannara series
The first novel in Terry Brooks's Shannara series, The Sword of Shannara, was released in 1977. There are 19 books in the series with more on the way. I also highly remmend Terry's "The Word & The Void" and "Genesis of Shannara" series.
Katherine Kurtz
Deryni series
The first novel in Katherine Kurtz's Deryni series, Deryni Rising, was released in 1970. There are now 15 books in the series. I strongly suggest reading them chronologically rather than in publishing order. I also greatly enjoy her Adept series.
